High Demand for Goodwill’s Programs

Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay continues to experience very high demand for our program services as people in our community continue to struggle to find jobs.

From the first sight of the economic downturn 2008 through 2010, enrollment in Goodwill’s programs has risen by an astounding 77 percent. This year we anticipate helping at least 4,800 individuals and families on their journey to self-sufficiency, more than double the number of people we helped in 2008.

“As our communities continue to struggle with high unemployment rates and economic challenges, combined with the closure of services due to government, private, and public budget constraints, Goodwill’s programs are in ever-increasing demand,” said Kimberly Scrafano, Vice President for Development & Community Affairs. “We are fortunate in that our social enterprise of receiving donated goods and selling them in our retail stores is doing fairly well, but we still have limited capacity and waiting lists of those needing our help,” she added.
